Curious Tuesday 012 & 013

Oh hiiiiiii, I am still here but with minor amounts of internet and time but here I am! I miss you Blogspotters! Talking about tying knots and le vacationes this week!

1. How do you feel about marriage as a concept? Realistic? Romantic? A pipe-dream?
I think of it as realistic and very romantic and still a current thing not just an old fashioned ideal. I have never not wanted to get married. In fact when I was younger I always thought I would be married by now at the age of 24! Ha, not likely.
2. Do you think you’ll ever want to get married? YES.
3. If you did get married, would you want a big blow-out celebration or would you keep it low-key? Pretty low key I think, I don't like fancy shit. In a little church or on the beach and then a big bbq picnic later but reading wedding blogs (not that I do all that often, I swear) but you know sometimes you see these really amazing wedding videos and locations and music and food. I guess I would want to incorporate all sorts of bits and pieces of awesome but on a smaller scale.
4. If you are married now, how has that changed your relationship? N/A
5. If you’re married, how did you celebrate it? Knowing what you know now, would you have done it differently? N/A

&&& some questions from last week which I missed..
What were your family vacations like?
Where did you go? What did you do? What always happened? What was the best holiday you took together? What was the worst?
I remember in primary school all the rich kids got to go to Disneyland for holidays and we would always go to Rottnest or Exmouth. I was never really that jealous because I honestly felt like the parents were trying to buy their kids love (seriously, who spends that much money on a 8 year old?) I still don't get how or why parents take children on overseas holidays! The parents always look so pissed off and stressed and the kids always act so effing spoilt, argh! Sure, they must be rich and have money to burn and most likely don't need to "buy" their love but, shit, at that age I would rather see some real shit like native birds and karri trees. I much preferred seeing dolphins and quokkas and eating fresh fish and learning how to snorkel. I remember Mum always used to bring too much food, I remember singing John Williamson and Crowded House really loud. I think the best holiday we ever took was to a tiny town down south called Walpole.. I remember kayaking, watching my Dad fishing, roasting marshmallows, glass sculpture artists and smelling lavender fields. I am pretty sure that was the last holiday we had before my parents got divorced, so I guess it is also the worst for that reason :(

Curious Tuesday 011

Do I ever post this on Tuesdays? Nope!

1. What is your style direction for the upcoming season? Direction? Ermmmm, how about jaded runner chic? Or how about a winter hibernation focus? Suburban siren? Retail raven? LOL. I dunno! I bought a red tartan scarf yesterday which I am pretty excited about because I love red and I don't many other different scarfs over here. My main direction is to stay warm! I still wear thermal and flannellettes to bed plus 2 pairs of stocking if I am feeling brave enough to go out with no jeans. Ummmm ok, lots of red!

2. What is your favourite song right now? Just one? Ummmmm.. last night I heard Ryan Jarman do a cover of Do Wah Doo which I really liked. Oh and most songs by The Thin Kids! So much fun! And Mew singing Special. Quite a bazzarre mix really.

3. What’s your best love advice? Go for it & don't be afraid & put your heart on your sleeve! ! I dunno, I guess just don't hold back from opening up and loving with your whole heart :)

4. Who is the most exciting person you’ve met recently? My boyfriend, Ryan! The days when I don't see him are really boring and every time we hang out is so much fun! Every date has been amazing and today is actually our one month anniversary, awwwwwww!

5. Are you doing anything wonderful this week? What is it? This weeks wonderfuls are/were.. seeing Kate Nash twice!, going to see the ocean!, general boyf hang outs!, booking plane tickets!, writing to new penpals etc etc!

p.s WTF Blogspot, what on earth are you doing to my fonts! Seriously, WHY-THE-EFFING-FACE?

Curious Tuesday 010

G'day! This weeks Curious Tuesday is courtesy of being a busy bee, waking up at 6am and of course, Gala.

1. What is your very best beauty tip? Smile, drink lots of water and get lots of fresh air? Or failing that, take flax seed capsules and use Bio Oil?

2. Who is your arch-nemesis? I don't know! There are unfortunately lots of people that could be contenders though but I try not to think about them.

3. What are the three things you need to do in order to feel sane? Run, drink water regularly and listen to music at all times.

4. What is the strangest food you have ever eaten? I ate whale when I was in Japan.. but I didn't know that's what is was at the time and my friend didn't tell me til much later and then I was so upset! Most things in Japan were pretty strange.. like Natto. Owwwwwwww, Natto is such a painful and putrid dish.

5. What is one thing in your wardrobe which makes you feel invincible?
My new Salomon running shorts! They are black and so so light and comfy. Total win.

Curious Tuesday 009

This weeks is brought to you by my 8th consecutive day of no work despite actually having a job now and sitting in my room til midday with my electrical heater, eating blueberry porridge and of course, Gala Darling

1.
What was your first kiss experience? I think I was in year 9 so maybe I was 14 years old and it was with a boy in my bathroom as part as a truth or dare. It was slobbery and pretty gross.
2.
If you could work for — & learn from — anyone, who would it be & why? I want to play tambourine in Kate Nash's band (so she will take me thrifting and to dance parties in our spare time) or be Gyroscope's official photographer (because they have great stage presence and are also top blokes and quite fetching) or be Kurt Halseys personal chef (not that I am a super vegan foodie but I am sure he knows some delightful recipes to teach me when he is not drawing or painting and I am his muse, haha) or work for Frankie magazine (I could write articles about the different soy milks on the market and about how to decorate your room like a champion without actually getting any blue tack on the walls)..? Yeah all them!
3.
Have you ever taken a Myers-Briggs test? (If not, do it here, it’s quick & easy!) What was your result? Do you think it was accurate? (Also, TypeLogic is a great resource for finding out more information about your type.) This test reminds me of a test I had to do once for a job interview.. I haaaaaaaaaaate these things. But according to these dudes I am "ENFP".. I don't understand why or what it all meanssss?? I don't like being 50/50 intro and extro-verted, boooo. And why can't I be 100% feeling!
Extraverted (E) 50% Introverted (I) 50%
Intuitive (N) 55% Sensing (S) 45%
Feeling (F) 80% Thinking (T) 20%
Perceiving (P) 68% Judging (J) 32%
4. What is your favourite thing about your best friend? She is hilarious in a way that only we find funny, well other people laugh but not as much as we do.
5. What makes you happiest? Fresh air! I love driving with windows down in cars and even in buses too in winter I open the window (much to the dismay of other passengers..) I love fresh air when I am running, I love fresh air when I am hiking, I love ocean air any time all the time. I remember when I was landlocked in Canada for about 5 months and then when I saw the ocean at last and it really felt like a drug and I felt like I was a fish returing home! Fresh air FTW! They should bottle it and sell it because I would buy it but then I guess it wouldn't be fresh fresh, hrmmm. I miss the ocean right now btw, I haven't been near it for over a month, gasp!

Curious Tuesday 008

This weeks is bought to you by sitting in bed at 6am with gloves and a beanie not being able to sleep, contemplating chocolate raspberry cookies for breakfast again, the next 8 days off work and of course, Gala Darling

1.
Where do you find inspiration? Travelling, walking around the city at night, walking around the mountains, weekend markets, new music, assorted blogs, Frankie magazine.
2. Have you got any hobbies or interests you’ve let lapse & wish you would take up again? Swing dancing! I have done it on and off over the past 5 years and I adore it and I want to find a club in Melbourne as it has been over a year. Also, I haven't been for a run in over a week!
3.
One tea party. Ten invitations. Who do you invite? Gala Darling, Miranda July, Sara Von from Yes & Yes, Ellen Page, Kate Nash, Tina Fey, Lisa Mitchell, Drew Barrymore, Zooey Deschanel, Michelle Williams.
4. Who was your favourite teacher at school & why? Probaly my photography teacher who let me hang out in the lab every single lunch time for 2 years unsupervised to develop photos that I had taken of my favourite local bands. Also, I got an award at the end of high school as Photographer of the Year from him!
5. Have you ever been in a long-distance relationship? Nope.

Curious Tuesday 007

This weeks edition bought to you by Bighugelabs.com (so good! I can make things look good! See below!), porrige with cinnamon and as always.. Miss Gala Awesome

1.
If it was your birthday tomorrow, what would be on your wishlist? I don't normally make wishlists for gifts but I really want/need a new camera after I lost mine a few weeks ago. Pretty sure I am getting one today though!
2.
Do you look after your nails? Do you paint them? If so, do you have a colour that you keep returning to again & again? I used to chew them in high school but nowadays they are usually at a pretty nice length and in pretty good nick. I would like to paint them alot more often but I don't because I am a pro at smudging them plus the ideas I want on them (eg: a galaxy, panda, snowflakes..) are pretty tough to do solo painting. Colour wise I used to love black but I would always get in trouble at school/work. I still really really love just piling heaps of layers of glitter on! Glitter is a colour!
3.
What star sign are you, & do you think it is accurate? Aries. I used to follow/believe star signs daily but a few years ago I even made a new years resolution not to read them anymore. I still gaze over them sometimes and I think it depends which ones you read because sometimes it just sounds rediculous but sometimes they can more generalized and relevant and thats when I get sucked into beleive the hoo-ha! So, do I think me being an Aries is accurate.. ? Google search tells me/fellow Ariens are.. fiery in demeanor, born leaders who love their freedom, self dependent, glowing in energy, quick tempered, get offended easily, adventurous and capable of incurring extravagant purchases (lol, what?) So yeah, I guess I am most of those things sometimes?
4. What is something you have recently learned to appreciate? Woolen beanies and fingerless gloves. My new bedroom is an actual icebox and I can see my breathe in the air as I type this.
5.
What is your favourite city in the world, & why? I used to think I was a city girl but now I much prefer a mountain village, but big city wise.. ummmmm, New York.. I loathed it the first 2 times I went there and while I don't plan on going back for awhile I do have a big soft spot for it now because I just did some amazing things there and it pushed me to confront being mega home sick and lost and how to deal with it by myself. I am also pretty smitten with Melbourne, Auckland, Osaka and Vegas for food and shopping reasons.

Curious Tuesday 006

This weeks thought up by remembering old crushes, frozen fingertips at midnight and Miss Gala Darling

Tell us about your most incredible romance. I have slim to none stories of romance, but there was once a boy who was friends with my old housemate and we became kinda friends but nothing ever happened between us. This boy made me a mix cd (this wasn't just any old mix cd.. this one had a hand drawn cover!) and he also got Death Cab For Cutie to sign my cd for me when he interviewed them (as you do..) and I thought this boy was perfect (he dressed swell and was a ginger!) and I was going to teach him to ride a bike in the summer time but really I was never cool enough for him because he actually only dated fucking hipsters. So that's not romantic but I think he was the most romantic boy I have ever encountered and if I was the right girl for him he would have been even more romantic I think. Really, the sweetest thing anyone can ever do for me is made me a mix cd and it will melt my heart everytime.

Have you ever been the “other woman” (or “other man”)? Yes

What is the craziest thing you have done in the name of love? I made a boy a mix tape (an actual cassette tape! It was only a few years ago too and boy, it took effort) and I shoved it in his hand, kissed him on the cheek and ran out of the carpark at 1am. I still see him around and he always mentions "that mixtape" UGHH. It's not that crazy I know but I got nothing else!

Is there someone who you think of as the one who got away? Yes, another boy who I never even kissed and but at the time (like 4 years ago) he wasn't looking for a girlfriend and now is kind of is because I saw him on a dating site, but now we don't live in the same city. Blaa blaa, we are different people now.

Do you believe in true love? Yes.

Have you ever experienced love at first sight? Not yet. I think for it to be love at first sight both people have to connect and feel something. I fall in love with strangers every day that never notice me so that sure don't count!

Ok, after reading over all that I have come to the conclusion that I need some better boy stories! Or just boy stories that end before they begin! I even thought about this overnight but really these are about as good as it's gonna get for now. Oi vey!

Curious Tuesday 005

This weeks Curious Tuesday bought to you by sitting inside with the heater on a Thursday, coffee with soy milk and of course, Gala!

1. Would you ever get cosmetic surgery? If not, why not? If yes, what would you want done? No wayyyyyyyy, not ever. I believe you are you are and to get cosmetic surgery is all very fake and I despise most un-natural things especially beauty related. I believe everyone is so much more beautiful naturally without excessive amounts of make up and and especially without surgery.

2. What is “your drink”? Chai tea ♥

3. What are your five fashion essentials? Cardigans, Chuck Taylors, old fashioned sunnies, my charm necklace and some bizarre patterned item (not always bizarre, more likely to be floral but a pattern none the less)

4. Do you have any tattoos? What are they? If not, do you want some? What would you like to get? I do! I have a heart on my collar bone a la Kurt Halsey that I got on my 20th birthday. I don't want another one though and some days I don't even want this one. I got it with my old best friend who also got a Kurt Halsey one too, but the reason I got the heart is below..

5. What is something most people don’t know about you? I had open heart surgery when I was 16. I was meant to have key hole surgery for the murmur in my heart but that failed so I had to go into an emergency operation. I hate reading or watching anything to do with heart surgery, it really freaks me out. I still have a huge scar and I don't like talking about it so I am gonna stop!

Curious Tuesday 004

This week courtesy of tattooed vocalists, four wheel loathing, American idols and of course Miss Gala Darling!

1. Who is your favourite musician, NOT in terms of talent or aptitude, but based on pure sex appeal? I thought about this all day and again, I was kinda stumped. Not many, if any, but I guess Dallas Green or Angus Stone or Tom Delonge?

2. What were some quirks of your past lovers that drove you crazy? This shit of a boy I was seeing knew that I don't care about cars in any shape or form, but he would quite often tell me ALL about his car. I know most boys adore their cars but he just didn't get how little I cared. I would have liked him much more if he rode a bicycle!

3. If there was a movie made about your life, what song would you absolutely INSIST be on the soundtrack? Bruce Springsteen: Dancing in the dark

4. What is your favourite quote right now? Not so much a quote but a mantra/reminder: "we gotta stay positive!" from a Hold Steady song.

5. Connect up with other nonpareils! Post links to your website, Facebook, Twitter, etc., here! I has a Tumblr & Flickr

Curious Tuesday 003

Curious Tuesday 003! This week bought to you by Wednesday, boys with lisps, the 80's and of course, Gala Darling.

1. Who is your #1 crush? Well, I thought about this all day and I was actually stumped because at the moment I have no real crush on anyone which is devastating I know because crushes are awesome and the best kind of distraction and I love having someone to think about. But if any, it's always Seth Cohen, but he's not real.

2. Have you ever tried online dating? How did it go? Any tips? Yes, erghhh. Chatted to a few boys.. some sounded ok, actually went on a cute date with one boy but then it all went shit soon after. Long story! Tips would be, talk to the person and ask lots of questions, get to know them a bit before you give them your phone number and don't be afraid to be fussy.

3. Are you sentimental? Do you keep the things other people give you? Absolutely! I do delete smses pretty hastily however. If a relationship/friendship goes bad I will either bury all evidence of photos, letters etc deep in a box so I never find it or depending how how bad it is, throw it all out because I just want the good memories.

4. As a child, what were your primary interests? I was a pretty sporty kid.. I did surf club, teeball, netball and loved running. I was a girl guide, then a cub scout and loved going camping (still do!) I was obsessed with fairies and was convinced they existed in my backyard. I think I had one Barbie but preferred to play Lego and Transformers more. I loved watching Inspector Gadget, Captain Planet, Video Hits, Rugrats. Every birthday party I went to for at least 3 years straight was a Spice Girls dress up party. I also loved playing building forts out of pillows and couches, making mixtapes off the radio and jumping on the trampoline. I remember my brother and I used to play Micheal Jackson's Dangerous alot, plus I had a crush on Johnny Farnham? Yikes!

5. What are your top 3 guilty pleasures?

Crappy TV. Eg: Masterchef Australia, The Hills.

Staying in my pajamas all day on my days off work. I once went 48 hours straight in them!

Coffee. I'm trying to give up 100% but sometimes work buys it for me so I say "YESSSSS"

Curious Tuesday 002

Curious Tuesday 002! I was really looking forward to this all week! I love love love Q & A's! Original post from Gala Darling

1. What are you most excited for RIGHT NOW? A few little things but the big one is.. moving to Melbourne next month!

2. Who is your style icon? What inspires your look? Kate Nash I think more than anyone. She wears delightful floral and/or vintage dresses, is a freckley ginger, is not a rake, doesn't tan like a Oompa Loompa and everynow and then she doesn't wear dresses but skeleton suits or something and still impresses me. Although really, I don't dress like her on a daily basis, in fact I get dressed up and out of my jeans and tshirts seriously like 2-3 times a year. I just wear whatever is comfortable and I don't really care if anyone thinks it is "bang on trend" or whatever.

3. If you could have dinner with anyone, alive or dead, who would you invite? I have no idea. I am quite keen to meet my future husband! But really, I would just want my best friends and closest family. And raspberries with every meal.

4. What did you dress up as for your first Halloween? We don't celebrate Halloween here much at all, but I do have photos of me as Freddy Kruger (or as a dirty hobo..) when I was like 7 years old. I think that was the first and last Halloween costume I actually wore.

5. What are you improving? Trying to improve my food control. Eg, portion sizes and trying to eat only when I am hungry as opposed to binge eating shitty food when I am angry/sad/bored etc. Trying!

Curious Tuesday 001

Gala Darling saves the day! I feel like I have things I want to say but really there is nothing in particular at all at the moment, or at least I don't know how to put it into words so this post is inspired by this post. It may now be Wednesday in sunny old Perth but this is part of the very first "Curious Tuesday" that I woke up this morning to see on the internets and therefor, todays blog post. (either that or another quote about lying in bed all day..) It will most likely turn into a weekly thing as I love Q & A's!

1.
What is the strangest compliment you’ve ever received? An old friend told me last year that I was "so international" which I found a little humorous as I was born in Perth and have essentially lived here (in the excact same suburb) for the past 24 years and I really don't even think I travel more than most people. Regardless, I like being told that.

2. What’s your little-known talent? I am pretty organised. From the outside, my life might look like a mess but it is really just organised choas. I start packing for trips weeks and even months in advance. I write lists everyday for everything. Mainly because I think if I don't write it down it won't happen because I will forget because I forget alot of things and it's almost always because I had not written it down.

3. What do you obsessively search for on eBay? Bruce Springsteen shirts circa 1986. YSL air mail purse. Black and white oxford brogue flats. Vintage suitcases.

4. When you were a child, who did you worship & want to be like? I have always had a soft spot for Pippy Longstockings! Growing up I had ginger hair and freckles and no one else did but Pippy. Pippy was on tv, in the coolest tattiest clothes, she lived by the ocean, in a big old house without any parents just her pets and she would sing and dance and go on adventures everyday! Dream life!

5. What was your palate band? Otherwise known as the first band you heard that made you realise the world of music was larger than whatever the Top 20 singles were! (The idea for this one came from here!) I remember standing in Brashes and I only had enough money for one single and it was came down to Hole - Celebrity Skin vs Billie - Because We Want To.. I am still so glad Courtney won. I remember the next day at school, I think it was year 6 or 7 and no one else had heard of Hole and I felt pretty cool.
